When to Repair Instead of Replace

Not every damaged concrete surface needs to be ripped out and replaced. Small cracks, surface scaling, minor settling, and cosmetic damage can often be repaired for a fraction of the cost of replacement. The key is catching problems early before they get worse. A small crack today can turn into a major structural issue next year if water gets in and freezes.

We have fixed countless driveways, patios, sidewalks, and garage floors throughout Lowell. We will give you an honest assessment of whether repair makes sense or if replacement is the better long-term solution. Our goal is to save you money while ensuring your concrete stays safe and functional.

Common Concrete Problems We Fix

Different types of damage require different repair methods. Here are the most common concrete problems we see and how we fix them.

Repair Services We Provide

  • Crack filling and sealing to prevent water intrusion
  • Spalling and surface damage repair with bonding agents
  • Slab leveling and mudjacking for settled or sunken concrete
  • Joint and control joint restoration
  • Surface resurfacing for worn or damaged finishes
  • Corner and edge repairs for broken sections
  • Concrete grinding to remove high spots or trip hazards
  • Sealing and waterproofing to extend concrete life
  • Patch work for small holes or damaged areas

Fixing Cracks Before They Spread

Hairline cracks are normal in concrete and usually do not require immediate repair. But once a crack gets wider than a quarter inch or starts to separate, it needs attention. Water that seeps into cracks freezes in winter and expands, making the crack bigger each year. Eventually, that small crack becomes a major break that weakens the entire slab.

We clean out the crack, remove loose debris, and fill it with a flexible sealant or epoxy designed for concrete. This prevents water from getting in and stops the crack from spreading. For larger cracks or structural issues, we may use carbon fiber reinforcement or metal staples to stabilize the concrete and prevent further movement.

Leveling Sunken or Settled Concrete

When part of your driveway, sidewalk, or patio sinks lower than the rest, it creates a trip hazard and allows water to pool in the wrong places. This usually happens because the soil underneath has washed away or compressed over time. Instead of replacing the entire section, we can often lift and level the concrete using a process called mudjacking or slab jacking.

We drill small holes in the sunken slab and pump a specialized mixture underneath to fill voids and raise the concrete back to its original level. This process is fast, affordable, and much less disruptive than tearing out and replacing the slab. Once the concrete is level, we patch the holes and seal the surface to match the surrounding area.

Resurfacing Worn or Damaged Surfaces

If your concrete is structurally sound but the surface is rough, pitted, or stained, resurfacing can restore its appearance and add years of life. We apply a thin layer of specialized concrete overlay that bonds to the existing surface and creates a fresh, smooth finish. You can choose a natural concrete look or add color and texture for a decorative finish.

Resurfacing costs less than replacement and takes only a day or two to complete. It is a great option for garage floors, basement floors, and patios where the base is still solid but the top layer has seen better days. We can also add a non-slip finish for safety or a sealed coating to resist stains and moisture.
